The blade of grass
The withered flower
And me.
The grass cries, frantic
Perfuming the air with the
Stench of its fear.
The flower, parched,
Claws at absent earth
Gasps for water.
I lay on the clipped grasp
Gripping the withered flower,
Holding my breath until it stings
Pretending to understand them both.
